In modern manufacturing contexts, process monitoring is an important tool aimed at ensuring
quality standard fulfilment whilst maximising throughput. In this work, a monitoring system comprised of an
infrared (IR) camera was employed for tool state identification and surface roughness assessment with the
objective of reducing environmental impacts of a milling process. Two data processing techniques, based on
statistical parameters and polynomial fitting, were applied to the temperature signal acquired from the IR
camera during milling operations in order to extract significant features. These features were inputted to two
different neural network based procedures: pattern recognition and fitting, for decision making support on tool
condition and surface roughness evaluation respectively. These capabilities are discussed in terms of reducing
waste products and energy consumption whilst further improvingproductivity

Experimentation is used differently in science, engineering, and science education. The aim of many science fairs is to encourage young talent in scientific inquiry. Based on 57 interviews with participants of a German youth science fair, this article points out typical students' conceptions about the procedure and the purpose of experimentation. The analysis of the interview data revealed that the derived concepts firstly depend on each other and secondly reflect the differences in the way of thinking and working between scientists and engineers. Since experiences with experimentation provide the basis for learning and thus for the conceptual knowledge about science, we conclude that it is essential, for science education, to distinguish the engineer's and the scientist's point of view and to implement more authentic inquiry in science lessons at school.

This paper evaluates the efficiency of energy dissipation of the spillway for the Mekin Dam with
respect to its capacity by verifying that the flow down the spillway does not result in "transitional flow‟ which
can induce vibrations dangerous to the structure. It also verifies the stability of the spillway by calculating the
resulting safety coefficients at different times.

Gadolinium aluminate (GAO) was prepared by reverse chemical precipitation out of reagent grade chemical salt precursors i.e. gadolinium oxide and aluminum sulphate derived pseudoboehmite. The obtained gel like precipitates were dried, and calcined at various temperatures. Powders were uniaxially pressed into compacts and sintered in air up to 1600°C. Calcined and sintered compacts were characterized by XRD, FESEM, HRTEM, Raman spectroscopy, Arquimedes density measurements, Vickers indentation micro hardness, and fracture toughness (KIC) from crack indented specimens. Compacts were sintered up to 98.3±3.3 % high density values. Gadolinium aluminate perovskite GdAlO3 phase (GAP) was mainly found throughout all the processing and sintering cycle, however a monoclinic low strength gadolinium aluminate, Gd4Al2O9 (GAM) impurity phase was steadily found to be present despite tight stequiometric and processing control. Such impurity phase was found to lower the fracture toughness down to 0.12±0.01 MPa.m1/2.

Delays are one of the most common problem faced by the construction industry in India and around the world. Construction delays can be caused by several reasons which can be related to owner, design, labour or could be caused by some external factors such as bad weather. The delay in construction causes time overrun which implies that the project requires additional time for completion than originally anticipated. Time overrun in turn leads to cost overrun which causes huge monetary losses. This study focuses on finding out the most common causes of construction delays in Indian context. The study was carried out in South and Central Mumbai region. A questionnaire based survey was conducted based on 43 questions spread across 9 different categories. The findings were evaluated with Relative Importance Index technique. The aim of the study was to identify various causes of delays in construction and their importance.

In recent years, wide studies are carried out in usage of isolators in structures and equipment, for the
reduction of vibrations transmitted due to earthquakes, machine vibrations and any other minor disturbances.
But providing protection against vibrations caused due to blasts still remains challenging due to its high
amplitude and very short duration. In this paper, an effort has been put for providing shock isolation for
protective structure against dynamic load caused due to Blast, using mechanical springs devoid of damping.
Here an analytical study is made to understand the reduction of 10g acceleration to tolerable limit of 0.5g
acceleration. Simulations are carried out using ANSYS software to understand the behavior of the spring under
varying static and dynamic loads. Transmissibility of the shock from base to top of the spring is also studied
using software and results are found to be comparable with the theoretical approach. The results evident that
desired transmissibility can be achieved using mechanical springs

In recent times, terrorist attacks are happening at major locations that pose significant threat to
human life and infrastructure. The terrorist attack, especially the bomb explosion, causes catastrophic damage on
structures, leading to loss of life and damage to assets. Thus, protection of structures against such extreme events
or loading conditions is of prime importance. The loss of life and damage of the structure can be minimized by
implementing suitable mitigation measures in both structural and non-structural design. The objective of this
paper is to discuss on the guidelines for analysis and design of structural components of protective structures
against blast pressure for an unconfined explosion. This paper covers in detail about the protection categories,
risk assessment, Level of protection and damage, blast phenomenon and methods to predicting blast pressure,
dynamic analysis, design and detailing.

The purpose of this experiment is to determine IFT and viscosity of various polymer based fluid in enhancing oil recovery (EOR). Viscosity is a property of a liquid and it is defined as the resistance of a liquid to flow. Interfacial tension is the force that holds the surface of a particular phase together. Enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is the implementation of various techniques for increasing the amount of crude oil that can extracted from a well. One of the main techniques in EOR is by pushing crude oil by some fluids. Each fluid has different viscosity and IFT. A correct knowledge of IFT and viscosity of fluids using in EOR gives petroleum engineering tool of efficiently manage the production process of field. This study aimed to experimentally investigate the effect of different concentration Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), Potassium hydroxide (KOH) & Xanthangum on fluids using EOR. Four samples of fluids with different concentration of NaOH, KOH & Xanthangum which is mixed with water and carbonated water were used in this study.

loss in drilling, cementing, fracturing, and almost every other type of downhole treatment design. The filter cake
characterization is very essential for well selection of drilling fluid problems and formation damage. Therefore
this study is taken up to experimentally investigate the effect of different concentrations of CMC, Starch, Wood

Thermodynamic modellings of the Au–Rb system was carried out by means of the CALPHAD (calculation of phase diagrams) method. The liquid phase and the intermetallic compounds Au5Rb, Au2Rb, AuRb and Au7Rb3 and Au3Rb2 (new compounds) in addition to the compound AuRb2 (suspected compound) are taken into consideration in this optimization. The substitutional solution model was used to describe the liquid phase. The six compounds are treated as stoichiometric phases. The enthalpies of formation used in these optimizations were calculated within ab-initio method in precedent work.

First-principles calculations within density functional theory (DFT) were used to investigate intermetallics in the Al-Lu system at 0 K. The five compounds of the system were investigated in their observed experimental structures. Thermodynamic modelling of the Au–Lu system was carried out by means of the CALPHAD (calculation of phase diagrams) method. The liquid phase and the intermetallic compounds Al3Lu, Al2Lu, AlLu, Al2Lu3 and AlLu2 are taken into consideration in this optimization.
